NQA-PEFC-COC-0819Certified by NQA to PEFC ST 2002:2020 and PEFC ST 2001:2020, covering purchase, sale and distribution of PEFC certified sawnwood and treated wood under the Physical Separation method. Continuously certified since 2009.
Timber Development UK — member
Member of Timber Development UK, formed from the merger of TRADA and the Timber Trade Federation. Members must adhere to the TDUK Code of Conduct.
TDUK Responsible Purchasing Programme — Operator
Participating in the RPP as an Operator: annual purchasing declarations, continuous due diligence under the UK Timber Regulation, and an annual declaration of trading status.
Certification covers the purchase of FSC 100% and FSC Mix timber for sale as FSC Mix sawn lumber and timber products. Certified material is not automatically supplied on every order — ask us for it when you enquire and we will confirm availability and the claim on your paperwork.
Responsibility
We recognise a responsibility to the environment, to our customers, to our suppliers and to our staff to base our commercial activities on well-managed forests. A director is appointed to be responsible for implementing this policy, environmental issues are reviewed regularly with senior management, and all employees are made aware of the policy and given appropriate training to carry it out.
Legality
We are committed to purchasing all timber from legal sources, and we seek evidence from suppliers that they operate in accordance with the laws of their country. We unreservedly condemn illegal logging practices and keep informed of changes in international legislation.
Endangered species
We will not trade in timber species prohibited under Appendix 1 of CITES, and we obtain the appropriate documentation for trade in all other CITES-listed species.
Certification
We support international efforts to improve forest management, including the development of credible timber certification schemes. Independent certification of forests and of the process chain is the most useful tool for providing assurance that timber comes from legal and well-managed forests. We only accept or use labels and certificates carrying environmental or sustainability claims where they are supported by publicly available standards, drawn up in a transparent and objective way and backed by independent inspection.
We do not support boycotts
We will not encourage boycotts or bans on specific timber species. That said, we will cease to purchase any timber or timber product whose supply is in breach of the Timber Development UK Code of Conduct, and in particular its Environmental Code of Conduct.
Continuous improvement
We work with trade organisations, suppliers, NGOs and governments to develop our purchasing policy, and we are committed to continuously raising the proportion of timber and timber products that originate from legal and sustainably managed forests, in line with the stepwise approach.
Reporting and audit
We report annually to our appointed auditors, who assess and verify our progress and compliance under this policy. As a participant in Timber Development UK’s Responsible Purchasing Programme we also submit annual purchasing declarations and are audited in line with the UK Timber Regulation.
Beyond the timber
Free delivery across the East of England and East Midlands runs on our own vehicles, planned into routes rather than sent out as individual drops, which keeps the miles per order down. Offcuts and sawdust from machining do not go to landfill.
